![]() IMBA / SUBARU TRAIL CARE CREW VISITS WINNEMUCCA & BATTLE MOUNTAIN May 13-16, 2004 This visit started out in Winnemucca, with the IMBA Trail Crew meeting with BLM Recreation Planner BARBARA KELLEHER and CHUCK AUSTIN of BIKES &MORE, scouting a potential route up to the top of Winnemucca Mountain. That evening, two dozen mountain bike enthusiast came to the MARTIN HOTEL for the inspiring "Trails Around the World" Slide show. Saturday the visit moved to Battle Mountain, where morning was spent on the indoor basic trail building seminar. After lunch we headed out to Copper Basin, once known for its copper mining activity, but now for its gold and silver production to do some trail work. In a unique partnership NEWMONT GOLD, the BLM, and local trail advocates, have been working on this twenty plus mile trail system over the past couple of years. Although touted as the "Arm Pit of America", off-road cycling enthusiasts will soon be planning to make a stop here as this neat trail system expands. Typical of much of Nevada, riding is possible year round, but prime time months tend to be March, April, May and October and November.
