Evans Canyon Trail Update

Westside Trail Segment and Reroute Complete!
This panorama shows the recently constructed
trail on the west side of Evans Canyon and the climbing turns connecting
up to the USFS trail high on the rocky ridge. You can now reach the USFS
property without going thru the new townhome development at the top of the
canyon. A little over one mile of trail was cut with the Sweco and then
hand finished. Approximately 1/3 of a mile of the old miners grade will be
cut in by hand to complete this westside segment. The eastside trail
section started this summer to the cottonwood trees will eventually
continue the length of the canyon and allow for the abandonment and
reclamation of the roads in the riparian area.
The work in the canyon is the result of a trail grant obtained by the
Truckee Meadows Trail Association. A
big thanks goes to MARY WINSTON,
PATTI BAKKER and
DICK BENOIT of the TMTA who have for years have fought the dam
project and who had a vision restore this wonderful canyon.

Joey Klein and Dave Dessel of
Arrowhead Trails lead the trail work. Its always a pleasure to work
with Joey and to share his enthusiasm and passion for trails. Dave
works for arguably one of the best trail builders in the country (Tony
Boone) and showed us all how to achieve "professional grade" trails.
