The work in the canyon is a result of a grant obtained by the Truckee Meadows Trail Association. The original plan was to eliminate as many of the creek crossings as possible and to reroute the trail higher above to preserve the riparian zone. After further consultation with Joey and David and  considering the areas tremendous growth, increased trail usage, close and easy access, it was decided that two trails were best  to accommodate future canyon use.

Thus, the east side segment will need to be extended, staying low and near the creek, all the way to the top of the canyon. A new west side return will stay high, giving a new option of travel in the canyon.

This week  work will begin at the top of the canyon to build a new reroute  to connect to the trail on USFS property high up on the rocky ridge. This will provide permanent access and avoid the future development of more planned town homes.

Your help is needed this weekend to wrap up the trail improvements on the last half mile of trail out of Evans Canyon. The Sweco has cut bench all the way to the top, we just need a little people power to put on the finishes touches.

Meet up on the trail at the top of Evans Canyon anytime from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Tools will be up there to use, bring gloves, drinks, snacks and work for as little or long as you can. Any labor would really help!
