Nevada Forest Legacy Program

MEMORANDUM
January 3, 2003
To: NDF Staff
From: Rich Harvey, Resource Program Coordinator
Subject: Forest Legacy Program

The Forest Legacy Program is intended to identify and protect environmentally important forest lands that are threatened by present  and future conversion to non-forest uses and to assure that both the traditional uses of private lands and the public values of Nevada's forest resources are protected for future generations.  A key element in the development of Nevada's Forest Legacy Program is to identify what people value most about Nevada forests, the watersheds they protect, the wildlife they shelter, the views they provide, or other features. Working together with Western Environment and Ecology of Colorado, we have developed a questionnaire to help us identify the features of forests Nevadans  value most. Once completed the questionnaires will provide a basis  for identifying key forest parcels for possible acquisition of  conservation easements, development rights, or outright purchase  through the Forest Legacy Program. Landowner participation,  including the sale of lands or interests in lands is entirely  voluntary.  Our goal is to involve as many individuals, agencies and interested parties in the development of Nevada's Forest Legacy Program as  possible. Please take a moment to complete the attached questionnaire and forward it to Western Environment and Ecology.  Feel free to copy and share the questionnaire with anyone interested  in the future of Nevada's forests.

The questionnaire can also be completed online at www.nevadaforestlegacy.org

Thank you for your assistance and please give me a call if you have  any questions or need additional information
