Keystone Canyon Access
Temporarily Closed till Spring 2003 (Reno) Many have assumed that traditional Keystone Canyon trail head and parking area off McCarran Blvd. as public property, either USFS or county lands. But it always has, and is, private property and the land owners, a local church group, have recently begun site improvements on this property. Because of land ownership and liability, they are requesting that the public use the alternate designated access points to avoid crossing into their property and through the construction zone. THE GOOD NEWS IS—A NEW WASHOE COUNTY PARKS TRAILHEAD WILL ENSURE FUTURE AND PERMANENT TRAIL ACCESS TO KEYSTONE CANYON AND THE U.S. FOREST SERVICE LANDS BEYOND. This will be located just up the mouth of the canyon at the recently erected concrete monument. This designated access is expected to resume in the Spring of 2003. Till then, please use the designated alternate access routes. PLEASE DO NOT PARK AT THE OLD TRAILHEAD OFF McCARRAN BLVD, EVEN ON WEEKNIGHTS AND WEEKENDS. Other access points you can use: 1) The City of Reno/USFS access off Kings Row to the west (go west, turn right on to Kings Row almost till it ends, turn right at access sign), 2) The north parking lot at Rancho San Rafael County Park, by the soft ball fields. 3) There is also a non designated access in the Sky Country subdivision on Regal Drive, at a power line crossing. This can take you above the church property and back east to Keystone Canyon, but this right at the property line and construction zone, please stay clear if they are working in the area. Till then, be patient, and try exploring some of the other areas road and trails for a refreshing change. |
