Trail Preparation for the 2003 W.T.B.A.

A big thanks to those who came out today to help Rich Edwards (IMBA's trail specialist) prepare for this weeks Western Trail Builders Conference and the Advanced Trail Building School to be hosted by IMBA at the weeks end.

The days work involved stone pitching and armoring a short section of trail high above Rancho San Rafael park. This once, little used horse trail, is now becoming a popular descent, with better riding skills and suspension evolution, increasing the pressure for trails offering more challenge. As Rich would put it..."big and burly". This "station" will be used to illustrate a type of technical feature, how to use and enhance the natural materials available to provide a challenging, but sustainable trail.

Next weeks trail building school has over 70 paying, private trail builders from across the west enrolled in the class. A number of stations and trail work is planned in Evans Canyon, where preserving a fragile, desert riparian ecosystem, while allowing trail use and users to pass through, will provide a number of trail building considerations and solutions.
