Washoe County Department of Parks & Recreation, the U.S. Forest Service
and Truckee Meadows Trail Association invite you to celebrate the
GRAND OPENING OF WHITES CREEK & THOMAS CREEK TRAILHEADS
And groundbreaking announcement for the MT ROSE
SUMMIT TRAILHEAD
WHEN: Wednesday, August 27,
2003 - 5:30 p.m.
WHERE: Whites Creek Trailhead (off Mt. Rose
Highway and Timberline Road - from Highway 395 South, exit S.R. 431 / Mt
Rose Hwy. Follow Mt Rose west past Galena Market and the Fire Station,
turning right on Timberline. Turn left at trailhead sign.
WHAT: Funded primarily through WC-1 Bond monies, the two new trailheads
were created through a partnership between Washoe County Parks and the
USFS Carson Ranger District. They represent a significant
achievement preserving some of the last remaining public access to the Mt
Rose Wilderness. The Reno Gazette-Journal also became a partner,
developing the "Know Before You Go" program to educate about appropriate
use of trails in Washoe County
