WASHOE COUNTY BACKCOUNTRY ROAD & TRAIL INVENTORY Development is
threatening access to the backcountry near Reno. The Washoe County
Backcountry Coalition is cooperating with the City of Reno and Washoe
County to identify key roads and trails which should remain open. The WCBC
is coordinating with Arlo Stockham, the Advance Planning Manager for the
City of Reno. Arlo was the City's planner for the Peavine Strategy and
wishes to propose an ordinance which would designate key access roads
leading to public land and establish standards for staging areas. These
roads would not be closed by new development. Technical aspects of this
effort remain to be defined, but the basic concept would be to provide GPS
coordinates and descriptions of the roads that are most important from a
recreation perspective. We will compile this information and plot them on Ariel photos for use
on the proposed ordinance. |
