Improved mountain bike access in Sacramento is the goal of an upcoming 10-day
Hot Spots campaign hosted by the International Mountain Bicycling Association
(IMBA) and the Sacramento Area Mountain Bike Association (SAMBA), Nov. 7-16,
2003.

IMBA invites bicyclists and the public to attend one or more of the following events during the Sacramento IMBA Hot Spot visit. The events are a great opportunity to learn about trailbuilding, trail access and other issues that impact outdoor recreation. It's also a chance to meet IMBA staff, the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew and get involved with your local club. These events celebrate the spirit of mountain biking and focus on constructive trail management solutions that benefit all Sacramento outdoor enthusiasts.

The IMBA Hot Spots program is made possible in part by generous support from
CLIF Bar, Inc.

Below is the current list of events open to the public. For more information visit www.sustainableenterprises.com/SAMBA or email event coordinator Rob
Horowitz at rhorowit@pacbell.net.

IMBA  HOT  SPOTS  PROGRAM

IMBA Hot Spots is a mountain biker driven program dedicated to improving trail opportunities in urban areas.

This is one of the most difficult challenges we face. As cities continue to expand and open space dwindles, it's becoming more and more difficult for mountain bikers and other trail enthusiasts to find convenient places to enjoy the outdoors. The Hot Spots program focuses on improving urban trail access and advocacy resources.

IMBA will lead 10-day Hot Spot campaigns in a handful of cities each year, working with local clubs and land managers, building trails and tackling tough advocacy issues. Each campaign will include events designed to get people psyched about mountain biking, including fun group rides, riding clinics and other social events.

The 2003 designated IMBA Hot Spots cities are Houston, Chicago and Minneapolis/St. Paul and Sacramento. Previously designated IMBA Hot Spots cities are Seattle, San Francisco Bay Area, New York and Cleveland. Read news and check out slideshows from these campaigns.

IMBA's urban access work goes well beyond these cities. IMBA will continue to refine an urban advocacy tool kit designed to help mountain bikers in any big city.

2003 marks the second year of Clif Bar Inc. sponsorship of the IMBA Hot Spots program. "We know it's important for people who live in cities to have convenient places to ride their bikes," said Gary Erickson, owner and CEO of Clif Bar Inc. "The IMBA Hot Spots program will help improve the quality of life in urban areas."
