Tomorrow is the Fernley Circuit Race. We have a great venue made available to us by Reno-Fernley Raceway, a 4+ mile course completely closed to traffic. The course features a very fast finishing straight, along with a short, but steep climb each lap and many twists and turns.

Directions to the Reno-Fernley Raceway from Reno are as follows: Take I-80 East from Reno to Exit #46 (26 miles East of Sparks) and turn right heading towards Main St. Follow Main St to the Intersection of Alt US95/Alt US50. Head South approximately 4.6 miles to the entrance to the Reno Fernley Raceway. Click HERE for a map to the raceway.

From Carson City Head East on US 50 to the intersection of Alt US 50/Alt US 95 and US 50 (Silver Springs) and turn North at the Stop Light. Travel approximately 9.6 miles to the entrance to Reno Fernley Raceway.

The course is approximately 4 miles long. A’s will be doing 6 laps, B’s will do 5 laps and C’s will do 4 laps. Registration will open at approximately 5:15 and first rider off will be at 6:15. A’s will start first followed shortly by the B’s and then the C’s.

Race fee is $10 for non Reno Wheelmen members, $8 for Wheelmen members. Free to women and juniors. In addition there is a $1 fee to all participants and spectators that is collected at registration to help pay for the fee the wheelmen pay for the venue, this fee is in addition to the race fee (women and juniors also pay this fee).

Hello everyone,
Tuesday is the first Aircenter Criterium of the season. I don’t plan on racing this one but I can always use a volunteer or two to help with registration.

Hello everyone,

Tuesday is the first Aircenter Criterium of the season. I don’t plan on racing this one but I can always use a volunteer or two to help with registration.

Registration will open at 5pm. C’s start at 5:30. B’s start at approximately 6pm and A’s start at 6:40. If you are racing B’s or A’s please wait until I have all the C’s registered before getting yourself registered. If I do get some volunteers I will see what I can do about getting a separate line for B’s and A’s for registration purposes. As usual tickets are $10 each and $8 for wheelmen members. If you are not planning on being a wheelmen member then there is a $20.00 twilight series fee (waived if you are a member).

If you have already participated in a race this year (last week or either of the preseason weekend time trials) then I have assigned your number to you and you will receive it at the race tomorrow. If this is your first race this year then you will also recieve your number, please keep this number as it is the number you will use all season long unless you change categories. PLEASE NOTE – your number is what identifies you in my database and it also identifies what category you are in. Jumping back and forth between categories is discouraged and so is sandbagging.

A’s and B’s may not warm up behind the C group. Due to the nature of the C group it tends to split up quite a bit and having the B’s and A’s warming up right behind the group tends to cause confusion. Please warm up to the center of the course so that the C group has a clear course to race on. Also please pay attention behind you. Once I have given the C’s their 4 lap count down please clear the course near the finish area.

See you at the races.

Hello all,

Tuesday night kicks off the 2012 Reno Wheelmen Twilight Race Series. This opening race is part of the points series.

Here are the particulars.

First off I will need a couple of volunteers to help with the start. If I do not have volunteers then I can’t run the event. If you are looking to get volunteer time in for the club then this is one of your opportunities.

Do not come back to me at the finish area to find out your time. I will disqualify you. The finish line is a narrow two lane road and riders congregating around the finish line force vehicles to cross the yellow line trying to get past which creates a dangerous situation for riders on the course. Secondly, you bugging me about your time distracts me from riders that are finishing, possibly causing me to make an error in timing. You wouldn’t want that to happen to you so don’t create a situation where it may happen to someone else.

Registration opens at 5:00 pm. First rider off at 6:15. There will be a 30 second interval between each rider.

If you have filled out a release form at one of the first two weekend events you do not need to fill out another one. I only need one release form for the entire year, not for each event.

Parking: The park closes at 7pm and they lock the gates at that time. If you are one of the early starters (first 20 riders) you should have time to complete the event and make it back to your vehicle. If you do not park inside the park then please make sure that you stay clear of the staging

The numbers that will be issued on Tuesday are not your permanent series numbers, those will be handed out at the next event. Your number will have your start time written on it, don’t miss your time, there will be a clock on the registration table with the official start time. Your start time will be in order of registration and your numbers will also be in order of registration.

If you are a current Reno Wheelmen member your ticket price is $8.00, if not the price is $10.00. Please go online to renew your membership, I will have a current list as of Monday evening, if you pay Tuesday afternoon please bring the printed receipt with you. As always women and juniors race for free.

Specific course details and other information can be found at the Reno Wheelmen Website.

See you there.

Hello all,

This weekend is the Eagle Canyon HCTT. Registration will open at 9am in the Shaw Middle School parking lot, please park in the small parking area nearest the school and the student drop off entrance. First rider off will be at 10 am and there will be 30 second intervals between each rider. Riders will stage and start in the School Bus entrance located in front of the school, this gives me a place to stage you guys off of the course and allows me to get you started in the bike path. If you filled out a release at last weeks TT then you are good to go, I will give you another number though this week with your start time on it. Your numbers for the season will be handed out at the first Tuesday night event.

The course is 3 miles long and ends at the top of the climb, here is the gmap route of the course, http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5377791 as you can see it is 3 miles long and gains approximately 750 feet. It starts with a flat run up to the start of the climb and then eases into the steeper part of the hill just past the high school. You are rewarded with a slight flat section about 3/4 of a mile from the top (it may even dip down a bit) before the final kick to the summit.

A volunteer is required for this event to help me out with the starts as the course is too short for me to get everyone started and still make it to the top for the finish, no volunteer, no event. Please let me know as soon as possible if you can make it out to help me.

Snow or rain will cancel this event. It is supposed to be cold and windy (38 degrees as start time) but I don’t anticipate precipitation. Please check the yahoo email list for last minute updates (no update then the race is on).

Thanks and see you there,

Registration will open at 9am and first rider off will start at 10am. Participants are required to fill out a race waiver for the series, but only need to do so once for the entire season.

An effort is under way to build a Pump Track in Reno. It would involve reworking the underutilized BMX track at Panther Valley Park into three levels of Pump Tracks, a small jump line and some skill development features. TAMBA and the Poedunks have been working with the City of Reno Parks and Rec Department to make this happen. It has the support of Parks and Rec, and will go to the Ward 4 Neighborhood Advisory Board(NAB) on Monday, March 12 at 6pm at the Eveyln Mount Northeast Community Center at 1300 Valley Road. Attendance from the cycling community is encouraged to show support for this project.

If it is approved at the NAB, it will then go to the Parks and Rec Commission for approval in April. Theoretically we could be moving dirt shortly afterwards and have this completed by the end of May.

Social Hour starts at 6pm, the movie will be shown shortly after 7pm. Tickets are $10 at the door. There will be $5 Raffle tickets for a cruiser bike from Black Rock Bicycles to support the construction of a pump track in Reno. Plenty of Food and Drink options available at CommRow.

The one hour documentary examines the long-standing confrontation between mountain bikers and federal land management agencies such as the U.S. Forest Service over bikers’ access to public lands. “Our primary theme here revolves around sustainability,” said writer/director Jamie Howell. “Mountain biking is exploding around the world. We will have to find new, cooperative approaches that both allow it as a legitimate use and manage it in a way that prevents the destruction of our precious and limited natural spaces.”

The central story line takes place in the small town of Leavenworth, Wash., but shooting for the documentary occurred over an 18-month period in every Western state and in Canada. “We searched far and wide to find powerful examples of solutions to these issues that are actually in place and working right now,” said executive producer Jeff Ostenson.
