Meeting Minutes, 11/12/07

Board of Directors in attendance: Lance Molinari, Spencer Ericksen, Jenny Frayer, Shawn Pearson, Pete Rissler, Randy Reigel

Other members in attendance: Mark Trujillo, Bill Cline, Darin Olde, Chris Carlson, Dan Brown, Max Holtom, Mike Galeoto

Next Club Meeting:  12/10/07, Walden's Coffee, 6:00 p.m.

Topics of this Meeting:

1.  Old Business

UNR Race Partnership:  Shawn has nothing new to report.  Paco has contacts at Northstar which might simplify permits if that venue is selected.  Also, a new team needs to be pulled together to do this race; it cannot just be UNR putting it on and RW promoting it.

2.  New Business

Treasurer's Report:  Current checking balance $1670.51; current money market balance $32056.09.  The latest clothing orders have been paid for.  The biggest upcoming expense is member race reimbursements in January.

Clothing:  All clothing from latest order has been received.  Jenny has posted a current inventory on the club website, and she believes this will be enough to last the 2008 season.

Cyclocross:  There were 68 racers at the Hidden Valley race on Oct. 20 and an estimated 35 racers at the Genoa race on Nov. 10 (Alta Alpina race).  The final race of the Sagebrush Cyclocross series will be Dec. 15 at Hidden Valley.

24 Hour Fitness: All USA Cyling members are eligible for a $24/month membership rate with no initiation fee and no commitment.  See www.usacycling.org for details.  Also, an advertisement for 24 Hour Fitness was mentioned, but Devin was not present to give details.

Sponsorships:  Via email, Justin reported that he has secured the following sponsors.  He will also be sending emails to the listserve as new sponsors come on board.

Ritchey/Syncros, parts discount through Great Basin Bicycles
Uvex Helmets/Glasses, discount through John Clausen (area rep.)
Specialized bike/parts discount through Sierra Cyclesmith
Ridley bikes discount through Sinclair Imports
Clif products discount through Walden's Coffee (Mark Trujillo)

Webmaster:  Pete Rissler is the new webmaster and has ideas on how to revamp the club website.  He wants to add ride maps/descriptions (road and MTB) to attract web traffic besides racers looking for results and race details.  He also wants to add a "History of the Reno Wheelmen" section, a results database, and google search capability, and he intends to do an internal redesign to make updating the site easier.  Finally, Pete succeeded in getting renowheelmen.com up and running as a mirror site to renowheelmen.org.  Thanks Pete!

Race Planning/Dates:  The following tentative dates have been set for the club's major events next year (excluding a possible race weekend in partnership with UNR):

Peavine Challenge:       May 31    Saturday    Cross-country
                                      June 1    Sunday    Downhill
District Time Trial:        June 8    Sunday    Championship 40k
June 7    Saturday    Non-championship TTT, 20k, Loyalton course?
Hill Climb TT Series:     May 18    Sunday    Geiger Grade
                                      June 29    Sunday    6-mile Canyon
                                      July 13    Sunday    Kingsbury Grade
August 10    Sunday    Mt. Rose backside (Incline Village)

Team RW:  Shawn Pearson will stay as the point of contact for the Reno Wheelmen race teams.  A kickoff meeting for the 2008 race season is planned for sometime in December, at which time targeted races and possible squads will be discussed.

2008 Elections:  After much cajoling and arm twisting, the following board members were selected for 2008:

    Spencer Ericksen
    Lance Molinari
    Darin Olde
    Shawn Pearson
    Randy Reigel
    Pete Rissler
    Justin Thomas

This slate of candidates will now be mailed out to all club members on record as of the election date for ratification, per the club bylaws.  The mailing will also include general notes to members about clothing, race reimbursements, and race dates; a call for volunteers to help with planning next year's events; the club "phonebook"; and a club sticker.

Volunteers for 2008 Events:  The club could really use a volunteer coordinator ("cat herder") to solicit the membership for help planning and executing events next year.  There are enough big things planned that the board members alone will not be able to do all the heavy lifting.  It would be great to have a "people person" that could get people lined up to help with the upcoming events.  Anyone interested?

Officials for 2008 Events:  The board reiterated its desire to build a pool of licensed officials in the area to draw from for the races we want to put on.  Perhaps Jim Crompton will teach a class again, or we can send people down for training at the Early Bird race series?  Also, the club wants to send someone to the USA Cycling officials' conclave in Colorado Springs next year.

3.  Action Items

None.

Topics for next meeting:  Installation of new Board of Directors and selection of officers; Race planning; discussion of Club Shop policy.

Respectfully submitted,

Spencer Ericksen
RW Secretary/Treasurer
