12-Mile Access – Friends Meteor Camp
As a part of the much bigger celebration of the Perseids Meteor Shower Campout, this trip will start at the 12 Mile Access to the Black Rock Desert, travel 6-10 miles north along the west shore to the campout site (exact location varies year to year). In addition to Perseids we will be celebrating Dark Skies of Nevada of which the NCA boastsboast some of the starriest skies in the world. We will do a dark tour of the playa to enjoy the starry night. The Perseids Campout has a wonderful paella cookout, telescope viewing opportunities, and a blacklight scorpion hunt. Any bike set up for touring will work. Playa conditions can vary from hard like tarmak to soft like cake flower, medium to wide tires are a better choice. Camping on the playa is a unique experience.
